The National Film Archive: Magnús Jóhannsson

sérviðburður

22. may
19:30

Magnús Jóhannsson was a pioneer in Icelandic filmmaking. Trained as a radio technician, he often referred to himself as a film-amateur, although he became the first Icelander to have a film of his screened at the Cannes Film Festival. He had a fascination for technological innovation, experimented with stylized filming techniques, and made several wildlife films at a time when such work was extremely demanding. Magnús operated an independent repair, import, and sound‑production company and was also a founding figure in film preservation in Iceland. The exhibition will review his career and showcase several of his films. Gunnþóra Halldórsdóttir from the Icelandic Film Archive will lead the event.
