How to get there / Accommodation
We encourage all our guests to plan further travels around the West Fjords before and/or after the festival. In close proximity to Patreksfjordur are some of Iceland’s most cherished natural attractions such as Dynjandi waterfall, Latrabjarg bird watcher's paradise and Raudasandur beach.
Norlandair flies from Reykjavik to Bildudalur where a flybus takes passengers across the last leg of the journey to Patreksfjordur. Several car rentals also service passengers with pre ordered rental cars waiting at Bildudalur airport. The duration of the flight ranges from 40-50 minutes and the distance from Bildudalur to Patreksfjordur is 30 km across mountain pass Halfdan.
Driving distance (See on map) from Reykjavik to Patreksfjordur is 392km (thereof 27km on gravel road). Duration without stops is around 5hrs but for travellers allowing more time for the journey there are many rewards along the way with natural hot springs, historic sites and beautiful views along the way.
Furthermore, yet another way to plan the journey is by driving for the first and last leg of the journey combined with a ferry ride across the beautiful Breidafjordur bay. The ferry Baldur, operated by ferry company Sea tours, leaves from Stykkisholmur twice a day during the summer season and once on the other side of the bay at Brjanslaekur harbour it takes approximately 40 minutes to get to Patreksfjordur (See on map) by mountain pass Kleifaheidi. It is possible to plan a few hour stop on the beautiful island Flatey before continuing on to Patreksfjordur. Travellers must familiarise with Sea Tour’s timetable, pre-book vehicles in advance. Make sure to be at Stykkisholmur harbour at least 30 minutes before departure as it takes the ferry staff a while to arrange vehicles inside the ship’s hull.
All notable destinations, restaurants, tour operators and accommodation can be found on the West Fjord visitor website.
