Conversation with the guest of honour: Aless­andra Celesia

Skjaldborg 2025's guest of honour it Italian director Alessandra Celesia. Celesia is based in Paris and Belfast and has directed documentaries in northern Ireland as well as her home country. After studying modern literature and acting, she had a career in theater before turning to documentary filmmaking.

A guest of honour inspirational talk will be given by Celesia on Saturday, 7th of June after a screening of her award winning feature The Flats. The film has traveled the festival circuit since its debut in early 2024. It was awarded the main prize at CPH:DOX 2024 and documentary of the year at IFTA, the Irish Film and Television Awards, among other prizes. The CHP:DOX jury noted that she is “not only creative and conceptual daring, but a filmmaker with the humility to realise when the story outgrows its framework, and the confidence to follow where it and its fantastically vivid characters lead.”
