Grandrokk
Þorfinnur Guðnason
Grandrokk is one of the wettest documentaries in Icelandic history. It takes place in 1998-1999 when the pub Grand Rokk on Klapparstígur moves to Smiðjustígur. But Grand Rokk was – and perhaps still is – one of the biggest cultural hubs in downtown Reykjavík. Everyone is welcome there and the pub is frequented by people from all walks of life.
Some say that the film deals a lot with Hrafn Jökulsson and the Grandrokks Chess Club, which was founded during a drinking session at the bar - and ended up as multiple Icelandic champions. The truth is that Hrafn leads the story forward, to the best of his ability, either completely sober or completely confused - but never boring and always up to something.
